Our own sacred narratives, along with the great Biblical stories, become woven into the fabric of our faith.
At First Presbyterian Church, we welcome each story — understanding
that unity is found not in conformity, but in Christ. First
Church embraces justice, kindness, and humility as modeled by Jesus and as challenged by the prophets. This is the story we are living together as an inclusive worshipping community in downtown Springfield.
You may wonder why this text is so light, the column so narrow — Listening, really listening, for people's stories takes work. The work it takes to read this light type in this narrow column is a metaphor for the commitment required to listen for people's stories, to listen to people. It is easier to speak, to have counter opinions, to force feed. Yet the real power in the world is a person's individual story. And, like this type that wanders around this page, each story binds us together. |
