What is Workshop Rotation
Sunday School?
Children experience the biblical stories and theological concepts in multiple week unit workshops. Each unit is based on one story or concept and the goal is in-depth knowledge and nurturing of faith.
Children journey deeper in to the questions of "why" and "how." Workshop Rotation, also called multidimensional learning uses the spiritual gifts and talents of many adult members, rather than a few. Teachers may sign up to teach workshops that would use their individual interests and gifts.
Our grandparents, who can't bring the children every Sunday, have found that each child fits quickly into the creative, high adult ratio workshops.
Some of First Church's
multi-dimensional learning
workshops are: Storytelling, Bible Skills, Art, Cooking, Music and Movement, Drama,
Science and Computer.
We
remember:
10% of what we read,
20% of what we hear,
70% of what we say,
90% of what we say and do — and
90+% of what we experience.
Experiencing the lessons of the Christian
faith through different learning modalities, which educational specialists
call "multi-intelligences" or "multi-dimensional learning," results
in better retention of knowledge.

Paul: Believers, You’ve Got Mail
— Unit Concept:
Paul wrote many letters to churches and believers everywhere to help early Christians know how to live and grow in the Christian faith. In the Movie Workshop, which is an introductory workshop with all children participating together, children are visited by Paul who tells them of his conversion on the road to Damascus. In following workshops children receive a different letter, and sometimes a package from Paul, in the workshop mailbox.

Kindergarten through 3rd grade students—
Armor of God — Accept or Deflect Game
Believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ grow stronger in faith through the church.
— Believers, you’ve got mail ! Children receive a letter from Paul addressed to the church in Ephesus and everywhere. In the letter Paul tells them to put on their armor of God. Children explore the nature of a soldier’s armor and then discover what Paul meant by the armor of God. Children dress in partial armor and play an Armor of God game where they use their armor to ACCEPT or DEFLECT life situation thrown their way with a nerf ball. Children learn that when they ask Jesus to be with them, they can always rely on the armor of God that helps them in their daily lives.

Making Spiritual Gift Soup
Believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ grow stronger in faith through the church.
— Mail, you’ve got mail ! Two letters and a package from Paul arrive from Rome. The package from Paul reveals Spiritual Gift Bags. Children use the contents of the bag to help make Spiritual Gift Soup. They learn that they all have God given spiritual gifts. They learn that God wants them to use the spiritual gifts to serve others in Christ and build up the body of Christ. A multi colored paper chain that they make, helps them visualize how they each have different spiritual gifts that when used together in the church make the church strong. Children claim their spiritual gift on a Spiritual Gift Claim Check and are encouraged to use them the following week to serve Christ.
